Many land owners don't want their property to be scarred by the use of heavy equipment.  Notice the nice walking path-type trails formed when draft horses are used for logging.

This was a fun project.  Cleaning up old dead fall near the riverbank meant heavy equipment was not an option.  Here our horses were able to weave through the landscaping to pull out logs.  No roads or earth moving necessary.  Full disclosure: I think Barry's foot (white horse) knocked over one of the stones on the pathway!

Winter can be one of the best times to manage a forest property, and has many advantages over summertime logging.  The ground is often frozen and covered in snow which means the logs easily drag over the surface without any damage to the ground.  And we like it because the animals and crew stay cool during the strenuous physical work.
